ABOUT JIL

I am Jil Ross. Filmmaker, Authoress, Playwright, Producer

With a unique style and spirit of storytelling handed down to me by both my maternal and paternal grandparents, in addition to my fascination with irony, interest in contemporary issues, social issues, current events, and intrigue with both individual differences and different abilities, I began writing stories.

Having a father who stutters, a cousin who’s deaf, neighbors who were albino, autistic and who lived with dwarfism, parents who served both as foster parents and who raised children of family members, the list goes on and on. As a result, I have witnessed diversity in a way that not many have, certainly beyond the scope of Black/white or straight/gay. I hold a deep interest in wanting to write stories and film content that addresses topics that are being under-explored, like stories that include people with different abilities, for example. I accept my upbringing as a gift, and I’m grateful that I’m able to use my writing skills as a tool to share insights.

My upbringing fueled me to writing The Shenanigans Series of Children’s books and in 2017 emboldened me to walk into the HR department of my 30+ year job and to resign to pursue my dream of writing content to inspire and elevate lives. I wear an “I have nothing to lose” attitude and sport it relentlessly.
